There is a very interesting verse in the book of Exodus that I thought of this morning. In the middle of the plague of frogs that covered the land of Eqypt, Moses comes to Pharoah and asks him (Ex 8:11) when would he like for Moses to pray for the flies to be removed. Here's what it says:
9 “You set the time!” Moses replied. “Tell me when you want me to pray for you, your officials, and your people. Then you and your houses will be rid of the frogs. They will remain only in the Nile River.”
10 “Do it tomorrow,” Pharaoh said.
Amazing. If you can imagine the scene, disgusting, slimy frogs are everywhere: Open your door to your house, frogs. Try to get in the bath, frogs. Get under your toasty sheets, only to feel frogs by your feet! The frogs were literally everywhere!
Now, logic would seem to say that if this were the case for most of us, we would have told Moses, "NOW!!! Today!! Pray for us and don't wait!! But I think we fool ourselves.
Most people are in some way unhappy about some aspect of their lives. We want to get in shape and lose weight. But, like Pharoah, its always TOMORROW. We want to improve our eating habits. "Tomorrow." We want to improve our relationship with our spouse and enter counseling. "Tomorrow." We want to spend quality time with our kids, to begin a family devotion time. "Tomorrow". We are going to begin reading our Bible. "Tomorrow".
The Bible is clear that God is a God of TODAY, who gives grace in the present moment. "Take no care for tomorrow", Jesus said. Do today what is in your heart to do. Don't wait. Start NOW.
Love you guys,
PB
