December 31st and January 1st really are, in and of themselves, days like any other day. But there really is something about turning the page of the calender to a new year that serves as a 'dividing line' of sorts.
We tend to reflect just a little more.
Here are some of my random thoughts, highs, lows from 2010.....mostly highs, as I want to forget the lows.....:)
- Favorite moment: finding out our dear close friend, Jennifer Watkins, was going to be married and become Ms. Josh Stewart. Then, to make it better, the dream of having a baby with her becoming pregnant.....Deb and I have walked with Jennifer many miles. This was a sweet year for her!
- Lowest moment: I'll take a pass.....
- Favorite movie: By a long shot, "The Fighter". Very rough, 'Philly street' language, but totally spot on authentic, not gratituitous. The acting was across the board perfect. If Christian Bale does not win the Academy for Best Supporting Actor, something is wrong.
- Worst movie: "The Sorcerer's Stone". A Disney remake that I fell asleep in after the first 10 minutes. Woke up and went back to sleep. :)
- Favorite meal: Hands down, the Crispy Duck on a bed of spinach at River City Brewery in New Orleans. We eat this same meal every year when we make our annual pilgrimage to NO after Christmas and every single bite is amazing. Best part: 2 for 1 coupons at www.neworleansonline.com
- Most disappointing meal: I'll take a pass on that one too....
- Favorite moment at Harvest: hearing my son, Michael, NAIL the Muse song, "Uprising", as we started the God on The Billboards series!
- Least favorite moment? ......finding out some of the people I love dearly were moving: The Royers, the Shrocks, the Thurmonds, Russell and Kimmie, and others. That by a long shot is what makes pastoring a church long term tough. BUT, you have to focus on the new ones God is bringing in, many whom I am just getting to know...!
One thing is for sure: For better or for worse, the past is the past is the past. It is unchangeable. Even God can't change the past. We have to put it behind us, relish the sweet moments, learn from the bad, and move forward into the future with faith!
AS A REMINDER, WE ARE HAVING ONE SERVICE ONLY THIS SUNDAY, 10AM. On January 9, we will go back to our normal 8:30 and 10am service schedule.
