What I am about to say is sure to 'fire the ire' of a lot of people who are die hard Republicans.
Or Democrats.
Or whatever other camp you may indentify with.
I am 47 now. I vividly remember the first time I really CARED about anything having to do with politics. It was 1976. Jimmy Carter was running against Gerald Ford. My family was in Ocala on vacation and my dad, Republican all the way, was yelling at the TV as news of Carter winning came on. I took on my dad's feeling and remember being totally depressed, thinking the nation would go into a death spiral.
It didn't. Carter was not the 'saviour' the Democrats had hoped for. Interest rates went to almost 20%. We had an 'energy crisis' (whats new??). But Carter wasn't the devil incarnate as Republicans made him out to be.
Skip forward to Reagan. Then go to Bush I. Clinton. Bush 2. Now Obama.
Whether Democrat, whether Republican, ALL are a mixed bag. There is bad, there is good. I used to be Independant because of this, then became Republican because the other is too limiting in voting and by and large, Republicans are more pro life and fiscally conservative. My personal opinion is that our nation runs best when there is BALANCE, with one party not holding all the cards at the same time.
Again, just my opinion from seeing things play out over a now pretty long time.....
The thing that spurred my thought on this was seeing this week the Republicans in Florida trying to ram through the bill that will severely hurt our teaching force. They have the power are are trying to push it through with no debate. On the other hand, the recent healthcare bill....?
The Democrats rammed it through as fast as they could, as they hold all the power.
Balance it a good thing....???
Thoughts for the day!
