I'm proud of you Bob for being Salt in every area of your life. Many of us newcomers don't realize the rich, corrupt history this area is rising out of.

I really enjoy your blog. You always make me think.
I, too read the viewpoint from Rep. Evers. I agree that while the problem in our area has been a lack of change, I would want the citizens of both the city and the county to have a voice in what changes are being made. As a resident of Escambia County, but not the city of Pensacola, I worry that a hasty consolidation would be without benefit to county residents. Perhaps consolidation would be more appealing when we actually see some change and improvements from our local governments. Otherwise, it's just more of the same thing.

I think the issue is that the "important issues" aren't of the same importance level to folks across the board. What is important to me: increased bike/pedestrian travel, more neighborhood business, suburban farming, community gardening and so forth seems to be anathema to many people who are in favor of progress. In that light, all of the changes I see coming about have no effect on what I and others like me deem important. I believe that's part of the frustration and the labeling of "change for change sake."
