I am not big on recommending movies publically, as people's "offense buttons" fall all over the place and you never know all the various sensitive spots. BUT, we went to see this movie Friday night and I cant help but to give it a HUGE "Thumbs Up"!!
I wont spoil it for you, but here are a few things that struck me:
- It is totally authentic, being shot in Mumbai, India. Everything about it is "Indian". You get a real feel for the people.
- I love movies that help you experience things you could not ever experience normally. The filmaker really gives you an inside look at life in true poverty.
- I found myself really thinking about "generational poverty" as I watched it. Having worked with inner city people years ago, I never could understand how the kids had almost NO conscience about stealing. This movie helped me understand that.
- The story is redemptive. You leave feeling touched and warmed at heart.
The movie is gritty, no question, with some language sprinkled in, but it is not 'gratuitous'. Slumdog is the best movie I have seen in the past year, hands down. I expect it to be a top contender for the Oscar of best movie.
Try to catch it before it leaves theaters. The impact of the big screen only adds to it!
Enjoy your Monday....

Been to India twice and lived in S. Asia (Pakistan) for nearly 6 years. This movie is a must see and pray for the people represented in this brilliant film.
