Last night, Deb, Tory and I were cuddled up on the sofa, eating pizza, watching "Transformers" when the phone rang.
It was Brittany, HAVING to tell us about what had happened to her that day!
As most of you know, Brittany, our oldest daughter, is up in Birmigham in an intense discipleship program called "24/7". The assignment for this week was to preach a message to all the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year students, as well as pastors.
Brit has never done anything REMOTELY like this before, and has always steered away from the limelight. She was major nervous about it when we were there with her Monday. She would be critiqued and ranked against all the others, many of them being guys that are there to train for pastoral ministry.
Well, she not only made it thru, she was UNANIMOUSLY voted the best!!
She was so excited she could hardly contain herself! She said that as she spoke, she could sense the presence of the Lord within minutes, and she could see the people critiquing her putting down their critique sheets and picking up notebooks to take notes. When she was finished, the pastor came up and just said, "I dont know what to say........I really am overwhelmed........most use cliches, but you had phrases I have never heard....where did you get this from??
When she said "in my prayer time", he said, "Well from now on, its OURS and we are using that in 24/7 from this point on!"
The church there, Highlands, has about 6000 attending, with a youth ministry of about 500, and they are setting up her speaking to the kids.
Quite, cool.....! :)
It is awesome to see our kids, like beautiful flowers, bud open. We have always laid our hands on our kids heads each night, and morning, and blessed them with FAVOR, declaring that they will 'be the head, not the tail, .... blessed to be a blessing."
As we hung up, I told Brit not to think she could have my job......yet,... anyway. :) What is funny is that she has preached her 1st message at 19. I was 23!
I am excited about the next generation of church leaders like never before. May they stand on our shoulders and reach far higher than we ever could!
A proud papa...:)
